Endangered Species in Japan

• Red Crowned Crane

• White crane with a black neck with a red spot on its head. Only about 1000 of these cranes roam in the wild in Japan today. They are incredibly threatened by the loss of their habitat because of human development. River channelization, road building, and deforestation are destroying many historic breeding wetlands. They don't fly fast so they often have deadly collisions with utility lines. There are only a thousand of these cranes left and we need to help conserve them.

• Grayish brown monkey with a reddish pink face. Lives in colder climates

                     

• Red Crowned Crane
• White crane with a black neck and some red on its head. Its an endangered species in Japan

                     

• Giant Salamander
• 1.5 meter black and brown spotted salamanders living in the pacific near Japan

                     

• Spider Crab
• Worlds largest arthropod. Can span up to 3.5 meters. Crab with long bony legs that lives on the sea floor
